Glasgow Cathedral are advertising for a prospective organ scholar to commence in Summer 2019. This new scholarship, established in memory of the late former minister of Glasgow Cathedral, The Rev’d Dr Laurence A B Whitley, will offer a unique opportunity for an aspiring organist to work closely with the Cathedral’s professional choir, and to play for a variety of services.

- We seek applicants who demonstrate an active interest in organ and choral music, and are keen to enhance their skills in these areas.
- Applicants need not be in a current course of study, although ongoing organ tuition is desirable.
- Primary duties are playing for 3 Sunday services (morning or evensong) each calendar month (exact services decided by rota).
- The post is initially offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
- The successful candidate will receive a £3,000 bursary (paid in monthly instalments) along with access to Glasgow Cathedral to practise. Any additional services would be remunerated at the Cathedral’s deputy rates.
- Applicants should be competent organists, capable of accompanying standard sacred choral repertoire.
- There is no midweek commitment associated with this position.
