We are slowly proceeding through the process of searching for a new Minister of Glasgow Cathedral. Many of the technical boxes have now been ticked, inspections done, and approvals given. We are particularly indebted to our Interim Moderator, Rev David Easton for his expert guidance through the minefield of processes and regulations.
So where are we now? Our next major milestone is the election of the Nominating Committee, a group of thirteen individuals drawn from the members and adherents of the Cathedral. Nominations for membership of this committee will close on the 3rd of February, and the Kirk Session is finalizing the preparation of the Electoral Register, the list of Members and Adherents entitled to serve on the Nominating Committee, to vote for its members and to vote on its choice of a sole nominee, recommended by the committee, for the post of Minister.
This register is available for you to ascertain whether your name appears on it, until the 4th of February, and if you have been omitted, but believe this is an error, there is a mechanism to appeal to the Kirk Session to be included. Speak to any of the Session Clerks or contact the Cathedral office for further information.
We are currently working towards a Congregational Meeting to elect the Nominating Committee after the morning service on the 11th of February. If the total nominations to the committee equal only 13, then the Interim Moderator will simply announce that these have been elected. If there are 14 or more nominations, then it will be necessary for those at the meeting to elect the members of the committee by secret ballot. To vote for the members of the Nominating Committee, you must be on the Electoral Register and in attendance at the meeting. Postal or proxy ballots are not allowed by Church of Scotland regulations.
If you wish to be involved in the choice of our next Minister, then take the necessary steps:
- Make sure your name is on the Electoral Register
- Be nominated and seconded for membership of the Nominating Committee if you wish a more direct involvement.
- Mark the 11th of February in your diary and attend the Congregational Meeting.
